It was the day of the small wheels on Saturday. I saw this on the way out from doing some grocery shopping:

There are actually quite a few people riding 20-inch wheeled folders in Canberra, and I have seen at least 2 Bromptons on my way to work, but I am pretty sure this is the first time I’ve seen an Alex Moulton in Canberra - not to mention in person. It is certainly something that’s instantly recognisable with its latticed frame. This particular model was running RX100 which is what I have on my roadie, what is interesting is that the gearing setup, with a 8 speed cluster as well as an internal hub, very useful in Canberra with all its hills. The owner came back when I was making like a tourist over his bike, and mentioned that there’s actually a group of small wheelers that gets together time & again for a ride. Thanks to google, this is apparently one coming up next month.
Shortly after, I came across this old lady pushing up a nice Birdy up the hills, and asked whether I could get a picture. This is her first time back on the bike this year, after having had an accident last year when dismounting. Oh, and she’s 81, I could only hope that I’d be riding still when I am half her age. I doff my hat to you, M’am!
